Internationally experienced. Thoughtfully driven. Focused on helping people move well for life.

Born in Campbell River and raised in the Vancouver Island community, Cynthia Barker’s path to physiotherapy has taken her from Victoria to Amsterdam, with clinical experiences spanning Europe, South Africa, and Canada.

After completing her undergraduate studies at the University of Victoria, Cynthia moved to Amsterdam to pursue her physiotherapy education. She went on to build her clinical experience in both private practice and a neurological rehabilitation centre, working with a diverse range of orthopedic and musculoskeletal conditions, as well as complex neurological conditions including spinal cord injuries, stroke, Parkinson’s disease, and multiple sclerosis.

Her international training also included a 2.5-month internship at a paediatric hospital in Cape Town, South Africa, where she supported children recovering from surgery, children living with cerebral palsy, and infants receiving treatment for clubfoot. She also completed a clinical internship in Geneva, Switzerland, working in French – an experience that allows her to offer care to French-speaking patients.

After returning to Victoria in 2025, Cynthia completed her Canadian credentialling and is delighted to once again call Vancouver Island home. She is especially happy to be closer to the ocean, mountains, and the outdoor adventures that make the Island so special.

A Forward-Thinking Approach to Movement and Longevity

Cynthia believes physiotherapy has an important role to play not only in recovering from injury, but also in preserving the strength, mobility, balance, and physical confidence that support a healthy, active life.

At our clinic, she brings a broad rehabilitation background and an appreciation for individualized care to help patients and members better understand their bodies, address physical challenges, and work toward meaningful functional goals. Her approach supports a more proactive view of health – one that considers how movement and physical function today can influence independence, resilience, and quality of life in the years ahead.

By integrating physiotherapy into a broader, personalized approach to longevity, Cynthia looks forward to helping patients and members move beyond simply managing limitations and toward building the capacity to keep doing the things they love.

Beyond the Clinic

Cynthia’s curiosity and sense of adventure extend well beyond her clinical work. She has volunteered at two Olympic Games: Vancouver 2010, where she helped guide audiences during the opening and closing ceremonies, and Rio 2016, where she recorded the order of competing boats at the rowing venue in real time. That experience sparked a lasting interest in rowing, which she later pursued by joining a rowing club in Amsterdam.

Now back on Vancouver Island, Cynthia enjoys camping, exploring the outdoors, and making the most of life near the ocean and mountains.
