FAQs
Your questions, answered.
Athletic therapists may be found in environments such as:
- Multidisciplinary clinics
- Professional sports
- Olympic games (and other similar events)
- Sport and Exercise Performance and Optimization
- Universities and Colleges (research and teaching)
- High school, varsity, and amateur athletics
- Industrial workplaces + more!
The scope of practice of an athletic therapist begins with the education, training, and in-depth knowledge of the human musculoskeletal system, biomechanics, exercise physiology, and basic emergency care. Athletic therapists use a wide variety of treatment techniques including shockwave therapy.
A first visit to our clinic generally requires a 45 or 60 minute appointment. Almost all appointments begin with a consultation where your therapist will review your health history and conduct any appropriate assessments and special tests. The remainder of time will be hands on followed by reassessment. If indicated, your therapist will recommend any appropriate home care techniques which will help to support your personal healthcare goals.
For athletic therapists to conduct the most effective session it is recommended that patients come in clothing and shoes that are comfortable to move in.
This will be determined by both you and your therapist based on your individual healthcare needs. Should they be required, your therapist will discuss the frequency of upcoming treatments to find a schedule that best suits your wellness goals.
